Terbium Gallium Garnet ( TGG)
TGG single crystal has a large magneto-optical constant, low optical loss, high thermal conductivity and high laser damage threshold. It is widely used in YAG, Ti-doped sapphire and other multi-stage amplification, ring, seed injection lasers.
TGG single crystal is the best magneto-optical material for making Faraday rotators and isolators, and the applicable wavelength is 400-1100nm (not including 470nm-500nm). The Faraday rotator consists of a TGG crystal rod and a specially designed magnet. The polarization direction of the light beam passing through the magneto-optical material will be deflected under the action of the magnetic field, and its deflection direction is only related to the direction of the magnetic field, and has nothing to do with the direction of light beam propagation. The optical isolator consists of a 45-degree deflection rotator and a pair of appropriately placed polarizers. It allows the light beam to pass in only one direction and blocks the light beam propagating in the opposite direction.
